about the CHARACTERS
Main Characters: Nana & Zenith
Both characters represent the two sides of the same coin. How similar traumas can create two vastly different outcomes and the path to their healing.

NANA
Name meaning: 7, origin, perfection
- An office worker - the typical “it girl” - but in reality it’s all a façade. She carries deep wounds and traumas and escapes from her darkness by playing a role that people wish her to be.
- Full of contradictions and paradoxes, she embodies the complexity of how someone can multiple sides of them residing in one person.
Nana's path to healing involves the ups and downs of how sometimes in order to move forward, sometimes we have to take a few steps backwards. It's not linear. It's tough, painful and many times despair and escape is all we have in order to cope.
She is there for those who feel broken down and lost. Those without a voice. Catharsis through mutual shared pain.
Nana's LORE
Originally, Nana was created as the first OC and main character for the comic FOUR QUARTERS.
She is your average girl, maybe a little nihilistic and tired of the repetition of the work - eat - sleep cycle of life. Her only escape is the comfort of her pet cat, Maru, and her otome (dating sim) games.
One day she suddenly wakes up next to a man in bed, and when taking a closer look, he seems to look just like one of her favorite characters in a game. She accepts this situation much too easily, passing it as a dream that feels way too real - or better - that she was isekai'd into a reverse harem. But something didn't feel too right. She is able to wake up, and when she does, the passing of time is... odd. Whatever the world she finds herself in becomes a mystery, one that she isn't curious enough to solve, because why would you? When you can treat it like a real life escape.

As Nana finds herself immersed in this world, creating new experiences and memories, things start to crack.
The past, the pain and the darkness always catches up to you. And you can never outrun it.
For so long she's played a role. Perfect daughter, perfect girlfriend - or lack of - and the perfect worker. But behind all this perfection was something broken and suppressed, for far too long. The wounds that never healed resurface and whatever that she's tried to hold down spills into her new life. Her escape becomes a place no better than reality.
As someone who's always covered up her own problems, Nana's quite good at playing pretend. But that only goes so far when the destruction comes from within.
Nana's journey is full of cognitive dissonance, avoidance and trauma. How is one able to heal when riddled with such things? In her real life you can live in the cycle of your own despair, but this world - whatever it is - isn't so forgiving.

FOUR QUARTERS has been on hiatus for many years now, and the story is not forgotten. Nana's story was meant for self healing, but also as a catharsis for those who relate. The story runs deep and takes a lot of planning, time and dedication to continue. However, it's the goal of EXPULSE to complete this story as a comic one day when the time allows. Perhaps the full truth of how this story came to be will be told as well.
In the meantime Nana's illustrations are snippets of her various sides. But the message behind her as a character holds a heavy meaning, and it's for those who relate, that she reaches for.

ZENITH
Name meaning: Z, the end, destiny, the peak
- An assassin disguised as a maid - from a broken family and tough childhood, she went down a path where she learned emotions were a nuisance.
- Instead of drowning in feelings of nihilism and despair, she tackles the world as a “no fucks given” persona. Obeying no one and only seeking her own interests.
- Her scars are the reminders of her path to becoming indomitable, through hardship one can gain the strength and mental fortitude of no other.
Zenith represents the self-confidence we need to overcome any doubt or "weakness" a person may feel. No one can place limits on us other than ourselves. Be strong. Be free.
